My first conscious experience of touch therapy was at age 4 when my stepdad would scratch my back. There was nothing more comforting and calming than this gentle, stimulating touch.
After many years of rigorous use of my body in sports and play, it occurred to me that Massage might be a good idea to ease the discomfort I was feeling in my shoulders and neck. I had developed scoliosis from a childhood, headfirst fall (which chiropractic worked reversed) but I still had a lot of challenges with my neck. Also, I had a hard time, relaxing, I don’t even think I knew what it was. Massage spoke to all of this and has continued and deepened the healing…
I’ve completed 400 hours of training at McKinnon body therapy Institute in Swedish, deep tissue, shiatsu, and acupressure and I’ve got another 300 hours of assorted modalities or focuses. In addition I’ve worked for and with chiropractors for many years so my work is very informed by considering bone misalignments/subluxations.
In the energetic realm I hold a level II Reiki attunement and am certified in The Shamsoma Method (shamanic/somatic approaches to transformation of the body/mind/spirit. Through the years I’ve studied shamanic practices with teachers from the Michael Harner school and recently have settled into the path of Seiðr, Norse shamanism/magic, from the lineage of my Norwegian ancestors.
All of this informs how i work with clients though I primarily work in the physical realm unless asked to traverse the other dimensions…
